Taking cues from John Fahey’s Revenant mandate, Colonel Acland & Lord Sydney explore ‘raw musics’ from a variety of idioms from the so-called avant garde and moving forward in no specific folk vernacular. The compositions on this collection are born of two acoustic guitars and 80% pre-composed material with a playful approach to meter, thematic content/texture and found sounds. Recorded as live duets in the now defunct Hackney Hunks Studio (neighbouring Derek Bailey) Acland & Sydney’s debut recording takes all the unexpected twists of restless intrigue but never loses its own melodic tail in the hope of a 360 reconciliation.
